Oh, the 7th of January

You know what is fascinating?  Last week, every single Groupon and LivingSocial deal that I got was in some way or another resolution-oriented.  Fitness classes, adventures, meal planning, detox packages, spa days... they all made their way into my inbox last week.  Since we're trying to avoid spending money, I dutifully deleted them, like I do almost every day.  Even when we do buy them, 50% of our deals go unredeemed around here.  Oooooops.  Anyway, what was in my inbox this morning?

A LivingSocial deal for COOKIES.  If that doesn't give me a very clear picture on how we as a society view our New Year's resolutions, I don't know what does.

And in case you were wondering, I deleted that one too.  Because 7 days into this new year, and I'm doing pretty dang well with my resolutions.  If I could make it through a bridal show without sampling even one treat, I would say that there is very little that can derail me from my dreams.  Yes, you heard right;  at the mecca for brides everywhere, where there is food, cupcakes, candy, and wedding cake abounding, I did not have a single bite.  Not of the cake pops, and not of the chocolate covered strawberries.

Poor Ammon tried to even avoid sampling anything, for fear it would knock me right off of the wagon.  He is such a good boy.  Instead, we headed out, and had a VERY late lunch at 2pm, where I had barbecued chicken, broccoli, and collard greens, and Ammon pigged out on a burger and fries.  Somehow, he thinks that this is any less of torture to me than if he eats cupcakes in a crowded expo hall where I can obviously ignore him???

I will never understand the way that men think.

  1. I have noticed a ton of "resolution" deals on LS and Groupon...some of them are hilarious. Like: no, I don't want to buy weight loss hot pants, thanks! :)

  2. Amen. So proud of you on holding steadfast at the bridal show! Impressive! More and more lately I think I really need to try the gluten-free lifestyle as I'm pretty sure the carb goodness is only exacerbating my thyroid conditions etc. I aspire to have your willpower to say no to cake and bread and all of the deliciousness that brings me great joy. :)

  3. Awesome Kristen!! I'm doing really good too. I have decided that if I want something I'm not going to stop myself. I am learning to limit myself to a couple of bites instead of the whole thing. So far so good!

  4. Very impressive! Inspector Climate is constantly unintentional torturing me with food - GLUTEN - Every saturday we go to the market, and he buys a freshly baked loaf of bread which I then generally have to carry around. and then he crunches on the crust and the soft bread inside. WHAT IS HE DOING TO ME.

  10. How do you not use your groupons? I usually only get restaurant groupons and I always use them... love a good meal for a fraction of the price!

  11. Not even a cake pop? Do you realize I think resolutions are evil instead of meaningful. They are supposed to be uplifting and rewarding. Nothing rewarding about the deprivation of not eating a damn cake pop.
