You've gotta have...

Faith, faith, faith.  Oh you gotta have Faith...

The longest time ago, I was having a fairly deep discussion with my dear friend Mrs. Robinson about faith, beliefs, and spirituality.  She is a Christian woman, and she isn't afraid to shout it from the rooftops.  It is one of the things I love the most about her.  Another thing I love about her is that she respects that I am not at this time following the Christian faith.  She doesn't demand that I convert in order to be my friend.  She loves me and takes me where I'm at.  I love that about our friendship.

So anyway, I told her at that time just a little bit of my story of my walk in faith.  I've sought faith for the majority of my life.  Sought peace.  Sought to be the best... whatever I can be, whether it be Episcopal, Christian, New Age spiritualist, Tantric (has surprising little to do with sex... like almost nothing, despite what you've heard)... I've tried a lot.  I've found a few things that resonate deep within my soul.  It has been a hard journey... less a walk, more a climb.  Some other day I will start to tell the story of my climb.  Every time I start that post, the words come out wrong.  But today, I will tell you what I do believe to be true in my heart of hearts, because I trust you all, and I love you.  I feel so blessed to have found a group of people who make me feel safe enough to share.

I believe that each of us is born with a spark of the divine within us.  That we are all capable of experiencing the divine, and taking part in in.

I believe that the most important lesson that we as humans can learn is to love.

I believe that people choose to worship in different ways and with slightly different beliefs, but that on the whole, MOST religions seek to encourage, love, peace, and joy.

I believe that I have no right or ability to judge the morals and beliefs of others as "right" or "wrong", unless their actions directly cause bodily or emotional harm to a living being.

I believe that every day I have the ability to choose to be kind, or to choose to be terrible.  Nobody is born all one or the other.

I believe that it is important to look upon the world as a treasure that we have been given, and that it is our duty to protect it and keep it safe.

I believe that all humans are born mostly kind.

I believe that things happen in life that we are not meant to understand.

I believe in prayer and positive intentions.

I believe in miracles.

I believe that I am in charge of my destiny.

I probably believe a lot more things than that.  I can't think of them all, and quite frankly, I know that it would bore you.  But these are the beliefs that I hold myself to each day.

I love talking about spirituality and religion!  I feel like it's totally awkward to blog about, though.  So if you want to continue a discussion with me about what I believe, I am so open and willing.  Please either leave a comment below (make sure your account is not set to "no reply", or leave an email address with your comment), or Email me.  I welcome all of your thoughts and beliefs.

Have a splediferous day!

  1. :) Well, hey. You know, I just think you're awesome. We've talked about it a thousand times, but I love how different we are. You make me think about different things....where I'm from, most people are Christians or were at least raised that way, even if they chose a different life for themselves. People around here are either spiritual or NOT, and they are so negative and skeptical and cynical. You, dear, are non of those things. And it's amazing. :) I've never met a good person who loves people who was not a practicing Christian before I started blogging. And it's very refreshing.

I think that our beliefs, when boiled down, tend to be pretty similar. We call them different names & we perhaps pray differently, but essentially...you & are made up of the same stuff. And I love it.

    Awesome post, sweet lady.

  2. I think at the core, our beliefs are pretty dang similar, and I think it's great that the world is full of so many different religions and beliefs.

  7. Thanks for sharing Kristen!! You recently read a little bit about my struggle in finding my faith and freedom too. I think it's good that we wrestle with it a bit, don't you?

One time, a great man said to me, "I dare you to seek the truth, really really seek it. I guarantee you'll find it." It was the best thing anyone has ever said to me, because he didn't tell me how to seek it or what he believed, just to do it.

I have been so grateful for that my entire life!
