How am I neurotic? Let me count the ways...
1) I feel the need to be an awesome baker. All of my family members are very talented bakers, and I have to say, I'm not bad. But after this weekend's baking experiences, I feel a driving need to be better.
Pretzel buns. These were... okay, but they deflated when I did the proofing step.
Croissants. The holy grail of pastry. While they taste okay, they ended up being a hot mess. Fail.
Ammon realized right around the time he went for his 4th croissant that my competitive nature mandates that I perfect my french pastry. He got a dreamy, faraway look on his face as he considered the sheer amount of butter necessary for this.
2) I want Ammon to go to church with me, but I get freaked out about him going to church with me.
This is the church we've been visiting. I get freaked out that he's only attending to make me happy, and that I'm somehow making him miserable. It's not true, but it's the story I keep telling myself.
3) I HATE sharing my candy canes. Hate it. I know Santa is frowning right now, but those are my candy canes... get your own!
And because I'm neurotic, and 3 is my favorite number, we're stopping at 3. Also, you should head on over to our wedding blog and check out our newest wedding planning post about our slow, yet still forward progress!
You hate sharing candy canes!! You mean your hoard the whole box?! i love you!
ReplyDeleteI love all of the neuroses here. I love it. I feel the exact same way toward my baking - if it doesn't look just right, even if my roommates are running around saying THIS IS DELICIOUS, I am not happy and will want to make a second (or third...) batch, just to try again. It's a vicious cycle, really.
ReplyDeleteEveryone's got a little OCD in them ;)
ReplyDeleteEven if your treats aren't perfect, they sure look yummy!
Haha...we are ALL neurotic, honey. Every single one of us. :) Just be thankful that you can distract the love of your life with butter! Haha.
ReplyDeletewhat the hell is a pretzel bun? i need one! and french pastry scares the shit out of me. but, i do love butter so you can send me a few croissants along with those pretzel buns, ok? by the way - if you love french cookery you should check out the biography of julia chid called 'dearie'. i'm finishing it up on audio book - i died! it's so good and i've practically begged mike to buy me 'mastering the art of french cooking' for christmas.
ReplyDeleteyou can have my candy canes....
the only croissants I make are the Pillsbury in a can done in eight minutes at 375 degrees ones.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed that you even attempt French pastries! That is so far beyond my proficiency level! And if they already tasted delicious, it seems like you've mastered the most important part. :)
ReplyDeleteyou are ridiculous.
ReplyDeletealso, i do not like candy canes or baking.
You are my most favorite neurotic person. LIKE EVER. End of story, and this is three sentences ;)
ReplyDeleteYour candy cane comment had me snorting in laughter. I'm pretty sure Santa can look past this one:)
ReplyDeleteUgh, I've had some baking fails in my life. I've never attempted french pastry (not entirely true, I made the puff balls for one of these: http://www.masterchef.com.au/recipes/croquembouche.htm (not the actual tower, because I'm not crazy!) and It was gluten free.
ReplyDeleteHowever, actual french pastry no way! partly because I wouldn't do all the work and not be able to EAT IT!
